Several losses and sky outlined with paint. Traces of clumsy restorations, rather damaged. Later outlined in the sky and in the profile below on the mask. Heavy formation of folds. Signed on the back. Some losses on the right and numerous gaps. The negative is viewed upside down. Reproduction obtained with raking light.

First of a series of works on early photography retouching and a reflection on figure-ground-support. Double exposure was a usual form of intervention on the sky areas of the pictures and inversion and mirrowing inseparable from the photo act. A piece of old paper, a page torn out of  an album with traces of holding a former picture (notations on the margin, shadow of the area cover by the picture), serves as precarious screen. In contrast to the original negatives kept preserved at an archive, the paper from the album has been left exposed to deterioration. The grains of the original negatives of pictures of Rome from the archive meet the fresh emulsion from the support of optical images of the work (also photochemical).
